The company behind the ponds
Koi Pros is the koi pond and water garden arm of Lake Management Inc: an Orange County water feature contractor since the 1980s, with our own crews and a habit of fixing causes instead of symptoms.

Part of Lake Management Inc
Koi Pros is owned by Lake Management Inc, the parent company that has designed, built and maintained large commercial water features across Southern California for decades: community lakes, golf course ponds, resort features, lagoons and the aeration, filtration and shoreline work that keeps them healthy. Koi Pros was established as the dedicated brand for residential and commercial clients whose interest is koi ponds, water gardens, waterfalls and the living side of a water feature, where fish health, water clarity and planting matter as much as the plumbing.
The two names share crews, equipment, licensing and a shop in Orange. A homeowner with a 3,000-gallon koi pond gets the same methodical approach a lake board gets on a 3-acre lake. And when a koi pond client's HOA needs its community lake looked at, or a lake client wants a koi pond at the clubhouse, the same people handle both. Together, Koi Pros and Lake Management Inc service every type of water feature except two: small residential fountains and residential swimming pools. Everything else is in scope.
Where Koi Pros fits
- Koi Pros: koi ponds, water gardens, waterfalls and streams, pondless features, commercial fountains, pond maintenance, repair, leak detection and resealing, for homes, HOAs, hotels, restaurants and offices.
- Lake Management Inc: community lakes and large ponds, lagoons, golf course water, aeration and fountain systems, algae and aquatic weed programs, shoreline restoration and dredging, for HOAs, municipalities, golf courses and master-planned communities.
- Not offered by either: small residential tabletop or wall fountains, and residential swimming pools.
Four decades inside other people's ponds
The work started in Orange County in the 1980s building backyard koi ponds, and grew into one of Southern California's longest-running water feature operations by doing the unglamorous part well: filtration sized correctly, plumbing that can be serviced, and maintenance that catches problems before fish die or a board gets a complaint.
Today we design, build, maintain and repair ponds, waterfalls, streams, fountains and lakes for homeowners, HOAs, hotels, apartment communities, golf courses, office parks and public agencies from Los Angeles to San Diego, out to Palm Springs and into Arizona.
How we work
- Assessment first. We don't quote from photos. A site visit tells us what the system actually needs, and sometimes that's less than you expected.
- Whole-system thinking. Water chemistry, filtration, circulation, biology and structure are one system. We fix causes, not symptoms.
- Our own crews. Construction, service and repair are done by our technicians, not subcontracted out.
- Fish come first. Every clean-out, reseal and renovation includes safe holding and acclimation for the koi.
- Written reports. Homeowners get readings and recommendations. Property managers get something they can forward to the board.
- Commercial-grade habits on residential jobs. Equipment pads you can service, valves where they belong, and documentation of what was installed, because that's how the lake side of the business has always worked.
Licensing and insurance
Licensed and insured. General liability and workers' compensation certificates are available on request, with additional-insured endorsements for commercial clients. Aquatic herbicide and algaecide applications are performed by licensed applicators.
Customer story
What clients say
“My son found Wes with Koi Pros online, and Wes built this above-ground fish pond for me. It's come out very nice. Every day my husband will come out here and relax and sit by the pond and enjoy the sounds and beauty of the Japanese-style koi pond Wes built for us. We also use it to water our plants with the fish waste, and our plants are very beautiful because of that. We are very pleased with Wes and his team.”
Victoria, homeowner for 30 years, Garden Grove, CA
Victoria has lived in her Garden Grove home for 30 years. Her son found Koi Pros online, and Wes built a raised, Japanese-style koi pond with a waterfall for her backyard. Her husband sits by it every day, friends come over to see it, and the fish water feeds the garden.
Customer story
A turtle pond rebuilt to run on a weekly back-flush
“Wes and his crew are fantastic. They've been out a couple of times to make it the best possible scenario for everyone. I try to do it as naturally as possible, without chemicals. The bio-filter with the UV light helps immensely. Once a week I back-flush and we're good to go. Clean water. Everybody loves it. The turtles love it.”
Homeowner
A homeowner on her rebuilt turtle and koi pond: Koi Pros added a bio-filter with UV so the water stays clear without chemicals, and the monthly maintenance that used to overwhelm her is now a once-a-week back-flush.
Customer story
A liner leak found the right way, in Long Beach
“They came back about three different times to make sure the leak was in the liner, without just saying, oh, we need to pull the liner out. It could have been a leak in the pipe. It's so clear, and you can hear the waterfall. I would recommend you guys to anyone. Fantastic job.”
Homeowner, Long Beach, CA
A Long Beach homeowner came home to an empty pond. Koi Pros came back three times to confirm the leak was in the liner and not the plumbing before recommending a new liner, then rebuilt the pond with the waterfall he can hear from the house.
